Hello again and Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at Docu-Type. You are receiving this newsletter as you have either won our award and agreed to receive this e-zine or you visited our site and signed up for it or you are friends of mine and I know you will appreciate it. If you are receiving this in error, the un-subscribe instructions are at the bottom and we apologize. Well, it's been busy here at Docu-Type since our last newsletter. So many URLs to check out, so little time. Not only do we send out this newsletter, but we receive numerous newsletters from others and each is always filled with links to check out. Some are good :-), some not so good :-(. There are so many great sites out there and so much useful information, it is hard to decide which ones to put in our newsletter. But in order to keep this newsletter as popular as it has been to our readers, we have narrowed down the field, and below is what we consider to be things that our readers will find interesting and helpful. If in your "surfing" travels, you find something that you think would be great to add to our newsletter, forward it to us and if we think it should be added, we will be sure to mention your site. ...I couldn't repair my brakes...so I made my horn louder! We have a contest running right now....Our Newsletter Needs a Name!!!! Something catchy but has to be related to Docu-Type and what we do. Check out our site http://www.docutype.net, see what we have to offer and then come up with a name for our newsletter that relates to both our business and our newsletter content. Ok, so your wondering "What's in it for me?". Well, if you come up with the winning name, we will include a special link to your site in our newsletter. Of course, your site must meet the criteria that we go by for our award sites (more info below). It cannot be offensive in any way (no profanity, nude pictures, racial slurs, etc). When you come up with something, send us an email with "Newsletter Name" in the subject. Be sure to include you return email address, site title and URL. Send your entries to jbyer@docutype.net . Depending on the amount of entries we receive, we may do a special newsletter dedicated to those that took the time to help us out! The deadline for entries is March 1, 1999, so get them in fast. Just think of it, free advertising in our newsletter to tons of businesses and individuals. As most of you are aware, we honor outstanding websites with our Superb Choice Award. The criteria for these sites is the usual...content, display, load time and much more. But the most important has to be that I don't mind if the site is up on my computer and my 3 yr old daughter comes into my office and sees it. So, if you haven't already applied for our award, send us a note with you name, email address, site url and title, where you found out about our award, your geographical location and we will be sure to check it out. We've decided to add something new to this e-zine, that will become a regular thing. We want to let all of our readers know which site, of all the sites we look at in a month, is the one that caught our attention the most. Maybe we should have waited to do this til later, as this month the decision was extremely hard. There were so many good ones. But, we did choose one. To all the others who received our award, this doesn't mean that your sites weren't great...they all are or they wouldn't get our award. So, you need to promote your site but don't want to spend the money to have someone else do it for you or the time submitting to all the sites individually? Well, finally, a site that lets you send your url to 450 search and link engines. In just a few easy steps, you can have your website travel the communication highway to the major search engines and free-for-all links pages. But, I warn you (from experience) that if you select all the free-for-all pages, your e-mail box will be bombarded with responses in just a few hours. The choice is yours.. The Promote ...Everyone has a photographic memory...some just don't have any film. Something that we at Docu-Type find very frustrating is that we submit our site to all kinds of Engines, Classified ads and the like, in the hopes of promoting our business, but we also get tons of email from those people that spot our site on these promotioanl sites and decide that we need to find out more about their "business that let's you make hundreds of dollars each day". Well, now there is a solution. Bounce Spam Mail is a great utility that you can download and it lets you send fake messages to spammers to pretend your address is invalid. It's a great way of getting your name off of SPAM lists. Check it out..... http://www.er.uqam.ca/merlin/fg591543/bsm ...Shin: a device for finding furniture in the dark What do you mean you haven't heard of ICQ? Where have you been? ICQ (translates to "I Seek You") is a another fabulous utility. It allows you to see if your freinds and colleagues are online. You can chat, send messages back and forth and even share URLs. This is a must utility! It saves in long distance calls, that's for sure. I really don't know what I did before it came along. I live in Canada and I chat with my cousins in Australia....no charge! Go to http://www.mirabilis.com and then download ICQ. It takes a little time to load (depending on your modem speed) then search the database to see if you friends already have it. If not, it allows you to send them the url and they can download it themselves. Better yet, send them our newsletter and they can link from here plus see all the other "neat stuff" we have to offer. Ok, here's Docu-Type's Joke of the Month.....(appropriate that it has to do with love) Philosophy of Lov: If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it will always be yours. If it doesn't come back, it was never yours to begin with. BUT.. If it just sits in your living room, watches your TV, messes up your stuff, eats your food, uses your telephone, borrows your car, takes your money, and doesn't appear to realize that you actually set it free in the first place.....you either married it or gave birth to it.
